America touts itself as being one of the most technologically-advanced nations on earth, if not the most advanced, and yet we are much like a third-world country when it comes to ensuring food safety, says Natural News founder/editor Mike Adams, the Health Ranger.
In a recent podcast Adams says food and agriculture industries in America are run by a cartel of industry and government conspirators who use their power and influence to protect corporate interests while betraying consumers.
“That’s why America still refuses to label GMOs or ban toxic, cancer causing food additives that have already been banned in the EU,” he notes.
And even as Russia has banned GMO agriculture and Taiwan has banned serving GMOs in school lunches, the U.S. Congress conspires to block all GMO labeling efforts, forcing consumers to keep unintentionally buying and eating GMOs that cause horrible cancerous tumors in lab rat studies, he notes.
As for Taiwan, Adams noted, that country is even requiring all food labels to include GMOs as well — but not America, for some reason.
The Health Ranger said the issue really comes down to one of choice and how the federal government and the agriculture cartels in American are denying it to you. “We are supposed to be a society that is progressive, that is advanced, that has the individual right to choose,” he said.
Adams noted that we hear all the time on various other issues, especially abortion, how that’s a matter of “choice” and how dare anyone suggest otherwise. But not when it comes to our food safety; in that instance, our food choice is made for us.
Which is to say, we are denied choice when it comes to knowing what is in our food.
What’s clear is that governmental efforts to deny us food freedom and the choice of knowing what we’re putting in our bodies are not popular. In fact, PBS Newshour reported in January 2015 that, according to an Associated Press/GfK survey, fully two-thirds of Americans supported labeling of genetically modified ingredients.
That’s close to a survey reported by The New York Times in January 2013, which found that 93 percent of respondents wanted labeling of foods that contained GMOs or other genetically-altered ingredients.
Despite this, lawmakers and successive administrations have regularly refused to support state and local efforts to require GMO-containing foods to come with labels describing what was altered. Because of that, Adams compared eating in America today much like walking through a minefield of GMOS, in that you have no idea if they are included in foods and if so, in what amounts.
Now, having said that, Adams added that you can avoid GMOs as well as harmful agricultural toxins and pesticides by purchasing organic products. However, if you can’t afford to buy organic foods or there is something that is not available, you’re stuck.
Adams said that with every other product you know what you’re buying and getting — cars, tools, consumer goods — but not your food, or what Adams called “agricultural totalitarianism.”
That the federal bureaucracy would allow the agricultural industry to continue hiding toxic and potentially toxic ingredients in our food is something more akin to the former Soviet Union or other authoritarian government — but not the United States, says Adams.
