For the past 20 years, Great Britain has been on what Reuters calls a cheap food “binge.” But all of that is now coming to an end due to the engineered global economic collapse brought about by the Wuhan coronavirus (Covid-19).
Food inflation could hit double digits in the U.K. as a “tidal wave” of soaring prices crashes into the supply chain, according to the head of the country’s largest chicken-producing corporation.
Blaming Brexit and the Chinese Virus for this tidal wave, the world’s fifth largest economy says it faces an ongoing shortage of truckers, butchers and warehouse workers – which just so happen to be the same things missing from the American economy.
“The days when you could feed a family of four with a three-pound ($4) chicken are coming to an end,” proclaimed “Chicken King” Ranjit Singh Boparan, owner of the 2 Sisters Group, in a statement.
“In relative terms, a chicken today is cheaper to buy than it was 20 years ago. How can it be right that a whole chicken costs less than a pint of beer? You’re looking at a different world from now on where the shopper pays more.”
Roughly one-third of all poultry products consumed in the U.K. are produced by Boparan, who says he does not believe that the British government is capable of fixing all of the many problems that are tied to inflation.
The lack of labor alone is leading to wage inflation, which corporate fat cats like Boparan will not tolerate. Instead, he is now planning to invest in automation to replace the human labor that used to packed up his chicken.
“Less labor means less choice, core ranges, empty shelves and wage inflation, and this isn’t going to change,” he added. “Right now I need to be honest about what this means for the consumer as inflation could reach double digits.”
Prime Minister Boris Johnson has come out against the idea of automating the workforce as opposed to simply paying people more for their labor. He said the corporate addiction to cheap foreign labor must end, and that wages must go up.
Brexit, Johnson added, is not responsible for the current supply chain woes and other problems that plague the U.K. economy. At the same time, the U.K. currently faces worse supply chain disruptions than any other European country.
“I feel confident that there will be good provision of goods for everybody, and we are working our way to remove blockages where we can,” said finance minister Rishi Sunak.
According to Boparan, feed costs, supplements, veterinary costs and wages have all risen 15-20 percent. Packing is also up 20 percent in just six months, and energy and carbon dioxide (CO2) costs have skyrocketed by about 500 percent compared to last year.
2 Sisters, which was founded by Boparan in 1993, sells everything from poultry to pizza to pie. It currently processes about 10.4 million birds per week and owns more than 700 farms throughout Great Britain.
Ronald Kers, the CEO of the 2 Sisters Food Group, is advising Brits to shop as they normally would, adding that the company will do whatever it can to ensure that there is plenty of supply for the upcoming Christmas holiday season.
“It is not a ‘black swan’ event happening – it is a black curse event,” wrote one Natural News commenter about the situation both in the U.K. and abroad.
